Here are some of the reasons that major advertisers choose QRZ:
-
Over half a million unique hams visit QRZ each month.
QRZ.COM is the Internet leader in ham radio. According to
Alexa.com, QRZ ranks higher in
overall traffic than any other amateur radio web site. Recent reports from
Google Analytics (see below), indicate that we regularly serve more than 12
million page views per month to more than half a million unique visitors, or
in other words, nearly 17,000 unique visitors per day. The average visitor
to QRZ.COM spends 10 minutes on the site and looks at over 6 pages of content.
30-day QRZ Visitors Report (pdf)
QRZ has a member base of over 320,000 registered users
along with thousands of casual visitors who have made QRZ one of their favorite web sites for ham radio.
It's a fact: in the ham radio world, QRZ.COM is
known to practically every amateur that owns or uses a computer.
Every day, over 100 new visitors join or discover the QRZ website.
What makes QRZ so popular? Perhaps it's due to our extensive online callsign
database of more than 1.25 million listings, our 156,000 photographs and QSL
cards, and our huge collection of some 95,000 personal biographies and brag
sheets. In addition, we host a number of lively discussion boards where amateurs
and electronics enthusiasts from around the world trade ideas, stories,
and radio equipment.
- QRZ attracts top industry advertisers
QRZ's advertisers include many of the companies from the Who's Who list of
leaders in our industry.

We guarantee you'll see a number of familiar brands and logos that attest to the
value of advertising with QRZ.
- QRZ has been online continuously since 1993
Our early entry onto the internet established QRZ as one of the oldest and best
known sites around. QRZ was in operation long before most of today's best known
internet brands were founded. By the time sites like Google, eBay,
MySpace and YouTube came along, QRZ was already serving a
vibrant and enthusiastic community of thousands of users worldwide. It's no
wonder that when you look up Ham Radio on any of the major search
engines, QRZ comes up near the top - every time.
- QRZ provides professional service and advertiser support.
QRZ was designed, built, and is operated by an internet systems architect with over
25 years of experience in the corporate world. The QRZ servers are housed in a
Class A commercial data center with 100% redundant backup of power, networking,
and environmental controls. Should things break, we have spare
servers on hand to quickly pick up and bring the system back online.
In addition to our reliable hardware, the QRZ advertisers get exclusive access
to our Ad Manager software that offers a
list of features that help you maximize your advertising dollar. These include:
- Real time reporting of ad performance statistics
- Live ad image updates, 24 hours per day.
- Support for multiple images per ad (with no additional fees)
- Support for per-image unique linking to your website
- Per-image collection and reporting of performance statistics
- Support for Animated GIF and Adobe Flash (SWF) content
Advertisers are free to update their ad graphics at any time and may
include any number of images in their campaign. Live performance tracking
is provided on an image-by-image basis that shows you which images perform best
so that you can maximize the effectiveness of your overall campaign.
- Flash (SWF) Content
In order to provide link and click accounting, flash ads must contain the following code:
this.onMouseDown = function () {
var fo:LoadVars = new LoadVars();
fo.send(_root.clickTAG, "_top", "POST");
}
- Unmatched advertising value
Major online advertising sellers such as Google and Yahoo sell advertising on a per-click
basis. In other words, using their services you pay each time someone clicks on your ad.
Narrowly targeted Google ads can cost upwards of $1.00 or more per click. The cost of
a QRZ ad, calculated on a per-click basis is often at least ten times less than what the major
search engines charge. At QRZ, per-click costs are typically in the 5 cent range. This,
coupled with the extremely accurate demographic that native QRZ ads afford, makes our
value proposition unbeatable. Why would you advertise elsewhere for fewer eyeballs,
fewer clicks, and more money per click?
Advertising Mechanics
All of our ad packages include the Ad Manager features described
above. We accept most forms of payment and prefer direct credit card recurring
billing. All advertising must be fully paid in advance. A 15% discount applies
for any order of 3 or more units (either 3 months or 3 "slots", described below).
QRZ reserves the right to approve individual ads or advertisers at its sole discretion.
All QRZ advertising is sold by the "slot", which represents a "slice" or "portion"
of the overall QRZ traffic. An advertiser may purchase multiple slots to increase their
exposure. The slot price is the final price for your ad. There are no "per-click" or
"per-impression" charges. Your cost is the same regardless of either how many times
the ad is shown or how many times it is clicked. QRZ does track and report the total number
times each ad image is shown and is clicked for your bookeeping use.
The total number of times your ad will be seen (a.k.a. "impressions") varies with the
overall daily traffic on the site. On heavy days, your ad will be seen more and on
slower days, less. The number of slots in rotation varies by the number of
advertisers and the number of slots each advertiser has purchased. For example,
suppose that 50 slots are in rotation on a given day and you have purchased a single slot. This
means that your ad will be shown 1/50 of the time, or, one out of every 50 pages.
If you have purchased two slots then your ad will be seen twice out of every 50
pages, or, twice as often.
Although having your ad appear once in 50 pages may seem small, the total number of
pages shown on QRZ makes it significant. Since QRZ will typically display nearly
700,000 ads per day, a single slot (in this example) would be shown about 14,000 times a day.
If you bought two slots, the number of showings jumps to 28,000 times, and so on. Again, these
numbers are approximate and vary directly with the amount of traffic and number of
slots running on a given day.
The total number of slots in rotation at QRZ varies on a frequent basis and is
not guaranteed at any level. Your ad exposure will increase proportionally, however,
with the number of slots you purchase.
