Biography for VK2RMB as of 16th May, 1999.

VK2RMB is the repeater callsign for the Manly Warringah Radio Society, an amateur radio club, situated on the northern beaches area of Sydney, NSW, Australia (refer club call of VK2MB).

VK2RMB is currently made up of three repeaters, 2 metres (146.875), 70cm (438.175) and 6 metres (53.675) with a 10 metre FM simplex gateway planned for the future.

VK2RMB was first operated around 1978, with the 2 metre repeater, from a former air force radar station at Beacon Hill, until about 1983, when it was relocated to the Volunteer Services Centre at Terrey Hills. Next the 70cm repeater was added to the system, followed by the 6 metre repeater a few years later.

The three repeaters share a common 4-port Motorola 68000 based repeater controller, developed by Phil VK2BDF. This allows the repeaters to operate independently, or in combinations of linked conditions.

Presently, the repeaters are undergoing various states of upgrades and overhauls, plus the planning of the 10 metre simplex gateway, all hopefully to be completed prior to the 2000 Olympic Games to be held nearby during September 2000.

Apart from the voice repeaters, VK2RMB also is licensed for packet radio on 144.800, at both 1200 bps and 4800 bps, supporting AX.25, NetRom, TCP/IP and ROSE protocols, under a Linux (Debian) Operating System, with a F6BBS style bbs. The I.P. address is 44.136.9.1
