IEARS-M, the Malaysian Intel Emergency Amateur Radio Service, is a volunteer
organization of Intel employees in Malaysia, who offers their radio
communication and technical skills for use in time of disaster or other
emergencies. The Malaysian team was established in Q3 2002 and is the
first-of-its-kind outside US facilities.
Our primary responsibility is to provide electronic communications services in
the event that normal communications methods are unavailable. By utilizing a
variety of communications methods, the team members can set up a communications
network linking Intel campuses with each other, out-of-state Intel locations,
and the local emergency services agencies.
IEARS-M holds the charter to develop and sustain a pool of technical expertise
in the setup, maintenance, and operation of high frequency (HF), very high
frequency (VHF), and ultra high frequency (UHF) communications channels for the
site Emergency Operations Center (EOC) operational needs. These include
satellite telephones, equipment with single sideband (SSB), radioteletype
(RTTY), packet radio, and continuous wave (CW) features.
IEARS-M was also formed to role model Work/Life Effectiveness by promoting
interests and hands-on knowledge in the latest wireless technology to
employees.
