First licensed in 1960 while in High School as KN5BCC, operated using a
Heathkit DX-40 and a Hallicrafters SX-99 with a dipole and a Demi-Quad. License
expired when I went to college and after 21 plus years in the US Air Force (in
communications, what else?) I again got bitten by the Ham-bug. Was back on the
air in September of 1992 as a General (N0UCG) using the old novice rig, updated
with a Heathkit VF-1 VFO instead of crystals. Boy, what a difference 30 years
makes. Got Worked All States on 40Meter CW before Christmas! A new Kenwood
TS-450S and I started in on SSB in late 1992. DXCC and a bunch of other awards
in 1993. Upgraded to EXTRA (20wpm code) in 1995 and still having a blast on the
bands. Introduced to 6 Mtrs in 2003 and need only one state to complete WAS
there. Have 7 band SSB WAS, 4 band CW WAS, a Mixed band RTTY WAS, and 312
countries for DXCC credit. Am active on GERATOL, 3905 Century Club, and OMISS
Nets as well as the HF bands. Hope to meet you there. Other hobbies are
collecting military insignia and NASCAR 1/64 diecast cars.
I am also an ARRL VE, the trustee of the SAC Memorial Amateur Radio Club
callsign K0AIR and the GERATOL Net Amateur Radio Club callsign W0NL,
Vice-President of OMISS, Past-President of the 3905 Century Club, and Secretary
of both SACMARC and the GERATOL Net.
73 es gud DX.
