I was originally licensed in 1957 as KN9KBI (Novice) and later upgraded to K9KBI (Conditional). I operated maritime mobile as K9KBI/MM, primarily from the North Sea while in the U.S. Navy on board the U.S.S. Canisteo (AO-99) from 1965-66, and later served on the U.S.S. Belmont (AGTR-4). After the Navy, I moved to Seattle, Washington in 1967 and was reassigned call sign W7FMB. Then in 1968 I moved to Wausau, Wisconsin and was reassigned call sign W9MDU. I upgraded to Extra Class about 1970 and was issued my current call sign AA9K. I retired from my job as a technical consultant in 2011 and live on a hill top in beautiful Franklin, TN, just south of Nashville. With the exception of 144/440 MHz, I operate exclusively on CW using a Yaesu FT-950 and some attic dipoles.
