ABOUT ME ---

I was born and raised in New Market Virginia.  Lived in Shenandoah County all my formative years.  Moved to East Tennessee ( Johnson City) in the mid 80's to attend College and met my YL ( Shelia) and we were married in 1990. 

After college we moved to Fredericksburg, Va and we began teaching in Spotsylvania County for about 4 years.  Upon getting ready to move I began in interest in HAM radio and began studying with a RS kit to learn the code and tech theory.  I passed my tech in 1994 ( licensed KE4OVS) and shortly after we ended up moving overseas to continue our teaching with embassy schools in Kuwait and Africa for a total of 12 years.  During that time I earned degrees from the New Jersey and Florida.  In Africa I was superintendent of schools and the XL was a teacher. 

I left my HAM radio license on the shelf until it came time to renew in 2004, at which time I decided to start messing with 2m and 440 with a FT-50r HT while in the usa on breaks.

This year I finally find the time and desire to get further along in the HAM bands and passed General and Extra a few weeks apart and changed my call to a vanity call AC3D.

I have participated in Field Day for the past 4 years, Johnson City, Kingsport, and Bristol.   I am just starting to develop a desire for Contest and trying to relearn my CW in time for next FD 2011.  I am working on WAS and WAC but slow process as I do not have the best setup in the shack. 

HAM SHACK

Currently ( July 2010)   I am using a FT897D and switch between the 6BTV and the G5RV antennas.  I also have an FT-7800 mobile unit in my truck and mostly monitor 146.700 repeater in the area.
