Born London UK. Resident in Bristol since October 2000. Previously lived in London, Tyneside, Hertfordshire, Liverpool (University), Manchester (University) and Surrey. Took the Radio Amateurs Examination at Mid Herts College Welwyn Garden City in December 1972 and was licenced as G8HGP in March 1973. Took the morse test at St Martins Le Grand London in August 1976 and became G4FKA in September 1976. Current member of Bristol RSGB Group, Shirehampton Radio Club, Bristol Contest Group (G6YB), Bath Radio Club and CDXC. Former member of Stevenage Radio Society and Contest Group (1971-1985), University of Liverpool Amateur Radio Society (1976-1979) and Sutton & Cheam Radio Society (1985-2000).

Main interest is contesting on any band, both from home and with the Bristol Contest Group. Current line of experimentation at home is HF using simple antennas such as slopers, doublets and wires. Current station is IC756ProIII with Writelog, MixW and microKEYER. Other rigs that hit the airwaves include an IC706MkIIG, FT-736R and TR-9130. QSL by card or LOTW. Also registered with e-QSL.

WAC Phone, CW and RTTY. DXCC Phone and CW.

QSL Manager for PJ2/G4FKA, EJ/G4FKA and G8HGP. Member of the PJ2Y IOTA expedition to Curacao in 2001 and 2002; GX6YB Isle of Wight in 2003; GB5HQ Team 2003; EJ2MT Bere Island 2004, 2005 and 2006; GJ6YB Jersey 2008 and 2009.

Other interests are folk/traditional music, walking, keep fit and supporting Newcastle United FC.

As for G8HGP. You can still hear that callsign on HF and VHF. It was re-issued in 1985...to my dad! He is active on HF and VHF so listen out for him and give him a call. I also act as his QSL Manager so send him cards either bureau or via myself.
