K0EC is the club call of the Eagle County Ham Operators, Inc. Eagle county is located 100-150 miles west of Denver, CO, USA on I-70. It is probably best known for the ski areas of Vail and Beaver Creek. We have two repeators at 11250 feet ASL on Vail mountain. 146.610 MHz with a minus offset and PL of 107.2 and 449.900 Mhz with a minus offset and 107.2 PL.

On July 12, 2003 we installed the K0EC/B 6m beacon at the site of the 449.900 MHz repeator. It is transmitting on 50.0677 MHz zero beat with a power of 45-50 watts from 11,250 ft ASL on Vail Mtn near the top of China Bowl. Grid square is DM69 very close to the center of Colorado.

The 3 beacon antennas were obtained from Steve Bozak, WB2IQU, of Bozak Antennas. One is vertically mounted at the 60 ft level and two are horizontally mounted just below this spaced 9 feet apart to give some gain in the east west direction and to keep the radiation angle below 30 degrees. See picture here on QRZ showing Dave, AA0RS above, and Larry, K0CL, below installing the three antennas on the 150 ft tower. These guys were great in dealing with a tower that is diffficult to climb and work on. Thanks to George, W1XE/0 for building the beacon and the brackets for mounting the Bozak antennas. Reception reports are welcome via Phil, N0KE, the club trustee.
