I was first licensed as WB2KTO in 1963 at the age of 13. In 1975 I moved to Iowa and shortly after was issued my present call.

I currently operate 160-2 meters, mostly trying to exercise my antennas and operating skills working DX and playing around in a few contests each year.

The large tower in the photograph is AN Wireless HD-70 with about 15 feet of mast above the top of the tower. The large antenna on top is an OptiBeam 4-40 for 40 meters and the lower antenna is an OptiBeam 16-3 for 20, 15, and 10 meters (both are wonderful antennas).

The photograph was taken from the top of one of the elements of my 80 meters triangle vertical array. You can see the top of one of the other elements in the foreground. I use an Array Solutions triangle array controller that I modified to fire in six directions.

I also have a 4-square vertical array for 30 meters, a DX Engineering 4-square receiving antenna for 80 and 160 meters, and a home-brew vertical for 17 and 12 meters. I have plans to put up a wire antenna with three collinear dipoles for 40 meters, providing some East/West gain without having to use the rotator.

My favorite bands are 160, 80, and 30 meters.

I do not have dedicated antennas for 17, 12 or 6 meters, but have found that my OptiBeam 16-3 does pretty well with a little help from antenna tuners (I have one preset for each band).

I answer direct QSOs with an SAE and postage more or less immediately. I send cards to the bureau a few times a year (about as often as I receive a package from our 0 bureau). If I have already sent a bureau card for a band-mode combination, I generally do not send another, unless there is a special request. I upload logs to LOTW at least once each month and usually just after big contests.
