Frank Taylor Smith, K1UB, has been an amateur radio operator since 1972; is a retired U.S. Army Colonel; a warden in the Georgia Corrections System; previously  four times elected President of the OMIK Amateur Radio Association, Inc (OMIK); 40 meter net coordinator for OMIK; a graduate of the Armed Forces Staff College, the National War College, the Defense Language Institute (Honor Graduate in German),South Carolina State University (BS-Chemistry), and Ball State University (MA-Psychology).  He served two tours of duty in Vietnam. Frank is a staunch proponent of both vertical and loop antennas, and has experimented considerably with both over the years.  He left the tribander/tower habit years ago for  a neighborhood friendly Carolina Windom and a Butternut vertical. Among many writings and articles over the years, he co-authored "The Real War: Communications in Support of U.S. National Interests," National Defense University Press, April 1981. His previous callsigns are: WB5GVI, DA2RF, KB3UB, and AF4WW.

Frank is a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc, a life member of the Military Officers Association, and a member of the Georgia Prison Wardens Association.

He resides in Fayetteville, Georgia with wife, Westdrena. Daughter Michelle, and son Reginald and their families also reside in Fayetteville.  Son Vincent and family reside in Washington state.
