K2QB - "The Queen Bee Station"
Welcome to the K2QB bio page! Located in Niagara Falls, New York I was first licensed in 1969 as WN2IVO. Back then the station consisted of a homebrew transmitter using a 6J6 on a piece of wood and a vintage Hallicrafters Skybuddy. Upgraded to General with the callsign WB2IVO and spent many an evening huddled over my Heathkit DX-60B and HR-10 combo chasing DX which is still my favorite part of the hobby. My interest in DX is what sparked me to become one of the founding members of the Western New York DX Associaton (WNYDXA)http://www.wnydxa.org/ Over the years the station has changed many times and in between 1996 and 2011 I was off the air due to family commitments and various other duties. Prior to going off the air the station consisted of a Kenwood TS-940S-AT and a Kenwood TL-922A amp. A Rohn tower supported a Moseley 2 element 40 meter beam and a Pro-37. In addition full wave Delta Loops on 40 and 80 along with a 80/160 sloper helped me achieve 5BDXCC, DXCC-CW, DXCC-SSB, DXCC-RTTY and Honor Roll status. Member #935 of CWops club. Back on the air after a 15 year hiatus. The old TS-940S-AT is being revived as is the TL-922A. New computer running Logger32 is up and running and a Microham USB III Digital Interface will allow me to chase DX on RTTY, PSK31, JT65and other digital modes. Running MTTY and FLdigi. Antenna system for now is an Optibeam OB9-5 roof mounted on a 9' Glen Martin tower. That covers 10, 12, 15, 17 and 20.
In addition a Cushcraft R-7 provides acts as a secondary antenna and also provides 40 meter coverage. On the personal side, I am currently married to a wonderful woman going on 36 years. We have been blessed with 3 beautiful children and two grandchildren for now. If you happen to hear me on the air please give me a shout. 73 de Jim
