First licensed in 1964 as WN4WCB operating first in Lexington, Ky and finally
in Hebron, KY.
Graduated from University of Ky. in 1968 with a BA in Radio,TV, Films.
Married to former Lee Ann McReynolds in 1966. Two sons John III and Kevin
Douglas.
After being off the air in 1966 due to Novice ticket expiration passed General
Class and was assigned callsign WB4FOT operating in Lexington, KY.
Served in USAF 1969-72 at Ramey AFB, Puerto Rico in AFRTS. Did
Radio/TV/Directing.
Promoted to SSGT. Operated as KP4DJI in Puerto Rico. Passed my Advanced license
in San Juan.
Received First Class Radiotelephone license after completing CIE correspondence
course while in the service.
After returning home, was employed by WKYT-TV as a technician. Later moved to
WLAP radio.
In 1975 joined Kentucky Educational Tv network as a transmitter engineer. In
1980 moved to the studios in Lexington where I worked in videotape. Have also
had stints in Maintenance and the technical library. I spent 6 years as the
Master Control operator (up to 5 automated channels) and finally retired in
July 2000.
Used the GI Bill to continue education. Earned AA in Electrical Engineering
Technology from Lexington Technical Institute and then taught there parttime
for 14 years.
Passed my Extra Class license in early 80's.
Was assigned vanity callsign K4IE in 1997.
Main interests are DXing and Contests although I love to ragchew, build and
experiment with antennas and collect wallpaper.
I have 342 confirmed countries for DXCC, finally got on the Honor Roll and also
finished 5BDXCC.
Other interests include gardening, camping & hiking, geneology, music (mostly
classical and jazz) and golf.
