I have been a licensed operator since 1979 with the call KA4LOY and now as Extra-Class call K4LOY. My interests are HF, VHF-mobile, and component-level design, repair, and test. I have a BSEE (Georgia Tech) with an emphasis in analog and RF. I work for a major test equipment manufacturer and my speciality is oscilloscopes - as an Application Engineer - it is a fun job because I work with customers and applications, and so, every day is different. My main station is a Heil PR40 mic fed into a minty Kenwood TS930S/PIEXX, then into a vintage-mint SB-1000; The linear drives a Swan ST-2 tuner, and at the skyward end of 75 feet of 450 ladder-line is a 280 foot Double-Zepp. Old school all the way, this setup gets me un-solicited positive comments; My interests are now leading me to audio-processing, mostly a simple EQ with audio-transformer, level-matching, impedance-matching, isolating, and to add some versatility. I also still own a TS830S, a Drake 2B with Q-Multiplier, and a Drake 2NT. As a teenager, I worked mostly CW, but got my start on SSB on NAVY MARS (NNN0YHG) daily and I owned and operated a retired Western Union RTTY machines in Macon, GA (it shook the entire house) using a homebrew one-tube RTTY AFSK demodulator; These days I dabble in PSK31 via a SignaLink USB interface.
