Mike was granted a license in June of 1954 and has been on the air ever since.
I took my General Class Exam at the main office in Washington DC on February
10th 1955, where upon my mail order Technician licnese was instantly upgraded.
I passed my First Class phone exam in 1960 and my Extra Class, also in front of
the FCC in 1970. I passed a 20 wpm sending test with a hand key and my call is
not a vanity call! We old guys are dying out but I know the code, understand
antennas and can build any kind of ham gear or test equipment and have done so
many times. I became a Life Member or ARRL in 1970 . Now retired as a CSX
Railroad Communications maintainer following a 38 year career I spend several
hours per day designing, building or just sorting out junque to assemble those
projects that are as much as twenty years behind schedule. I am as happy with a
Pentode legal limit job as a push-pull triode pair of 833A's or a 2E26
modulated by a pair of 6AQ5s.. I guess you could just call me a ham radio
operator. I have 10 minature Dachshunds. 4 black and tan, one pyebald and 5
shorthaired reds. Three spend the entire 24 hour day with me and seem to enjoy
ham radio as much as myself! 73, Mike
