Greetings. I received my novice license, KN5AVY, while in Temple, TX and made
my first CW contact on 8 April 1960 with Mike, KN5VVU in San Antonio, TX
crystal controlled on 7.171 MHz with 55 watts from a homebrew transmitter with
a pair of 1625 finals. My Elmer was W5LM, Jess Coleman. He worked AM with
807/1625 finals, 866A mercury vapor rectifiers, and a Hallicrafters SX-100.
Yeah, man! Rigs that glow in the dark!
I have been inactive for many years, but now am on the radio almost every day.
I enjoy DX, 2 meters, ARES, field day and our local club activities. Member of
ARRL and NARS (Northwest Amateur Radio Society which sponsors the Texas QSO
party) and now HLARC (Highland Lakes ARC). I recently moved back to the Texas
Hill Country around Lake Buchanan. I am still facinated with radio
communications. The current rig is a Yaesu FT-857D driving a Cushcraft R8
vertical.
I am married to a wonderful lady, have 3 great children and 5 terrific
grandchildren.
Good DX & 73, Lee
