I was first licensed in 1954 at the age of 14 as KN6HRT. I upgraded to GeneralClass in 1955 (K6HRT) and to Extra Class in 1975. In 1963 I graduated from Cal Poly -San Luis Obispo with a BS in Mathematics and moved to Southern California. In 1994 I retired from NorthropGrumman and took up R/C model airplane flying, RV camping, fishing, and building a logcabin in Idaho. Ham Radio became an important part of communication from our remote mountainous location and enabled me to experiment with many wire antennas in tall trees.
My activities through the years have been: Emergency Preparedness in RACES, MARS and CD;CW NTS Net member, 2-Meter Repeater Trustee (WA6YNT), Field Day Chairman for W6VPZ andearned the top score several times in the 6A category, VE for both ARRL and W5YI,SCCC member and ARRL Life Member. I am a past member and past president of Northrop Radio Clubs (WA6YNT,W6VPZ,WI6NG), and member of Autonetics ARC, Hughes ARC, Cal Poly ARC (W6BHZ), SLO ARC, Central Idaho ARC(KC7MCC), QCWA, FIST, TASMA, IEEE and IRE.
I began contesting in the mid 70's, primarily in the ARRL Sweepstakes phone and CW competitions and achieved twelve clean sweeps. In the last several years, I elevated my competitive activity starting with the 2009 W6ZE Field Day effort where I had a great time. I finally applied for the WAS and DXCC awards after more than 50 years.I now participate in LoTW and eqsl after resisting electronic QSLing for years. My currentinterests are HF DXing, contesting and collecting confirmations to qualify for the ARRLChallenge award and other wallpaper.
