I was first licensed as KN6KAP in November 1954. I have been continuously
active since that time, except for a four year stint in the U.S. Air Force
between 1959 and 1963. Even during that period I was sporadically active from
Tachikawa A.B. Japan, where I was assigned to the 9th Aeromedical Evacuation
Squadron.
After leaving the Air Force, I became interested in law enforcement and became
A police officer. I retired from law enforcement in 1991 as a police
lieutenant. As a police officer, I worked everything from "beat cop",
homicide investigator and patrol division commander.
After retirement, I worked for Ham Radio Outlet in Oakland, CA. I retired from
HRO in July 2003 and have moved to Mariposa, California, very close to Yosemite
National Park.
I also enjoy touring on my BMW K1200LT motorcycle with my wife, Jane. I am a
member of the "Blue Knights International" A Law Enforcement
motorcycle club. I belong to California Chapter XV of the "Blue
Knights".
I am the ARRL Emergency Coordinator for Mariposa County, CA. The Mariposa
County ARES net is held each Monday evening at 19:00 local time on 146.745 Mhz,
PL 146.2. If you are in the area be sure and drop by.
My primary interest in amateur radio is chasing DX. I operate mostly CW. (They
will take that key from my cold dead fingers)
Yes, that is my QSL card displayed on the wall in the movie
"Phenomenon", starring John Travolta. Much of the radio equipment
shown in the movie was purchased from the Ham Radio Outlet store I was managing
in Oakland, CA.
