I am a dinosaur paleontologist/rancher on my very remote ranch located on both
sides of the Wyoming/Montana border, 45 miles from the nearest town. My QTH is
Wyoming however. I am a long term SWL listener but recently got a general
ticket and will upgrade that ASAP. I have had a business commercial radio
system for nearly 20 years however and am fairly adept with electronic systems.
Visit my website for insite into cattle ranching/dinosaur hunting on the high
plains of Wyoming/Montana. I also have a nice broadband folded dipole set up
for 4 to 30 mHz, on the Montana side of my ranch, placed on a remote hill top
that occasionally has me transmitting by special request to help someone obtain
their WAS in hard to get Montana. Other hobbies: lead projection systems,
carpentry, electronic gadgets and numismatics.
I keep two shacks on the ranch feeding 7 antennas. Though I have several
vintage Collins and Drake stations up and running, I primarily operate two
identical (1 in each shack) Icom IC-Pro 756 III's with the IC-PWI solid state
amp attached to each. My main base antennas are: Barker and Williamson 102 foot
folded dipole, Hustler BT5 and a Barker and Williamson inverted end fed V. The
two meter repeater for one of my remote hilltop is in the planning stage.
I hang out days between ranch chores on 20 or 17 meters and have been known to
work the YL network regularly on 14.332, evenings find me mostly listening to
40 or 80 with an occasional break into a DX or interesting QSO. I send cards to
anyone who sends me one. No stamp needed if you send me a card first.
