I was licensed in 1979, but did not begin the quest for DXCC until I began serving as volunteer Amateur Radio operator in Charlotte, North Carolina's Discovery Place Science Center in 1996. Introduction to PacketCluster at the Science Center led to finding the Carolina DX Association (CDXA) which operates the cluster. Since 1997, I have been a member of this great group of DXers who serve as an outstanding resource for DXing and contesting techniques. I served as editor of the CDXA newsletter, The Pileup, for 12 years, ending in 2011. If you'd care to see the newsletter and learn more about CDXA, visit its website at: http://www.cdxa.org.

I am a regular user of Logbook of the World (LoTW). I upload my logs at least once per month. I enjoy a "hit rate" of over 34%. I still send out my QSL for those treasurable "rare ones", but just think how convenient and cost effective it would be if everyone used LoTW. Check it out! I do respond to QSLs from others using a method comparable to that which was used to send a QSL to me. For VHF aficionados, my grid square is EM95nk.

In Spring 2006, I took on the job of editing the INDEXA newsletter. INDEXA provides financial support to DXpeditions so that we may all enjoy working that "rare one". INDEXA's charter can be found at http://www.indexa.org.

Current awards held:

5BDXCC with endorsements for 30m, 17m, and 12m, DXCC (Mixed, Phone, CW), WAZ (Mixed, Phone, CW), 5BWAZ Basic Award (191 Zones), WAS (1980), VUCC (6 meters--207 grid squares), WAC

Longer term goal: DXCC Honor Roll, 5BWAZ (all 200)

Confirmed DXCC Entity count as of January, 2012 is 323, but the hill steepens! DXCC Challenge confirmed count stands at 1989. Most entities, other than on 80 meters, were worked using a Cushcraft R-7000 vertical (CC&Rs, ugh!) and homebrewed Moxon Rectangle (15 meters) from home QTH. A Butternut HF2V installed in December, 2006 finally put me on the air on 80 meters, allowing me to complete 5BDXCC. See you in the pileups!
