The Florida Division of Emergency Management is an active and enthusiastic
supporter of Amateur Radio Emergency Communications and operates a
comprehensive multi-mode amateur radio station at the Florida Emergency
Operations Center and State Warning Point in Tallahassee. Each of the several
mobile Emergency Operations Center used by the Division are also equipped with
amateur stations.
KA4EOC, the club station of the Emergency Operations Center participates in
ARES, RACES and SKYWARN and is a net control station for the Northern Florida
Amateur Radio Emergency Services Net.
The station is operated by amateur operators that are employees of the
Division. Usually operating the station are John, WD4FFX, Kimo, K4IMO, Bill,
KI4HGK and Bonnie, W4FFX, all employees of the Division who work in or close to
the Division of Emergency Management. In addition, there are almost a dozen
other State employees with emergency responsibilities who are amateur operators
and can operate from the EOC.
KA4EOC monitors APRS, SEDAN and Echolink full time and during times of
emergency or during drills, exercises or training programs, can operate on
VHF-UHF FM and HF SSB, CW, Amtor/Pactor and PSK-31. SSTV and ATV is also
available at the station, as is access to most AMSATs. Some operators are also
experienced and capable MARS operators and include members of all 3 MARS
organizations.
