Self taught ham going thru the ranks the hard way, from novice to extra class
(thats the old extra where we had to do 20 wpm). Worked for 20 years as a
electronic test tech before retiring to New Mexico on Jan. 2007. Been a ham
since 1978 that is when I got the KA7PUN call and decided to keep it. I was QRT
for the last six years and just got back into it July of 2007. Had the gear the
whole time but lost the desire to talk on ham radio.. then FD of 2007 changed
it, got bitten once again and had to get a newer rig.. that is when I got the
IC746 pro. Had to re-learn cw all over again. Been having a blast since.
I'm a 1954 model ham.. enjoying the good life of being retired now.. and
finally debt free for the first time since High School.
Love RVing and rag chewing on CW. Mostly on 40 meters (7.058 or down around
7.035) Sometimes if get antsee and see whats going on 30 meters (10.115) at
night from 5 UTC to about 8 UTC.
Learned how to fly about three years ago while I lived in Scottsdale, AZ.. The
picture was taken when I soloed, but here in New Mexico they don't have a plane
I can rent with a hand brake... need that cuz I fly with just my left leg..
lost the right leg due to a drunk kid back in 1973... life goes on and I'm
enjoying it...
OTHER INTEREST: Light Sport Airplane Pilot see EAA.ORG for more information on
light sport program
Riding Quads around the local area scarring the little bunnys hi hi
RIG: IC-746 PRO ANT: vertical R7 or a Full Wave Loop for 80 meters
Amp: Dentron 160-10L (4) 572bs original tubes still after almost 30 years of
use... but only get about half power out these days at about 500 watts. Since I
finally got around to installing the 220 line now its back up to 900 watts and
sometimes a tich over a kw. It's amazing how much a difference the extra
voltage makes hi hi ....
I just finished installing a phased 4 vertical array (9/06/08) for 40
meters.... can do both a Endfire or Broadside configuration with it.. been
having a blast with it.. ask me to show it off to you if you want to see what a
difference it makes... Lots of coax in building it, an entire spool of 500 ft
of coax.. was it worth it? YES! Can do either all four or just two in the
Broadside configuration... still trying to find the best of those two..
sometimes one is better than the other one or the other way around... go
figure...made the entire thing myself from the help of K4EJQ Bunky's design...
changed it a tich so that I could use either all four or just two going
broadside - his used all four all the time.. great design from him.. HATS OFF
TO BUNKY!
If you hear me on give me a call I will gladly carry on a QSo at any speed,
(that is if its under about 20 wpm) that is needed to make it a good QSO If the
conditions are right I can go faster up to about 25 wpm... but still prefer the
20 wpm speed or less...
