My former QTH is Ridgefield, Connecticut, a 300 year old colonial town and village 60 miles northeast of New York City. Station operations in Ridgefield included an APRS DIGIPEATER AND iGATE, DSTAR and Echolink RF nodes. In Ridgefield I was able to use the natural terrain to erect antennas - trees are nearly 70' high! Homebrew antenna experiments included Rectangular Hanging Loops (RHL), verticals, the venerable G5RV and a few long wires. In Ridgefield, the greatest performance was achieved using RHLs, -vertically hung, bottom fed. These fullwave broadside radiators are excellent performers and can be rotated on azmuth. I'm now on the Gulf Coast of Florida, which presents unique opportunities to use a salt water ground. I'm planning to outfit a Kayak with HF, and hope you'll hear me /MM ! More to follow with photos.I greatly enjoy digital modes and have been experimenting with ALE and the V4 Protocol. Digital voice over HF is another interest.
At home, I use two large monitors to keep track of what I'm doing. At top left is EI4JR's echoproducer controlling station linking via anFT-8900 duplexed to a 6M loop and a collinear for 70cm. Just below that is Dutchstar's WINDV, which provides DPRS (APRS for DSTAR) and call sign routing capability, running through a Yaesu FT-857d in 9600 bd packet to a collinear. Ham Radio Deluxe or other programs with a Flex are running digital modes. 73!
