Former Mayor of Wilmington and retired from General Electric as well as the U.S. Marine Corps. Currently involved with both residential and commercial real estate. Ham is active primarily on the low bands of 160, 80, and 40 meters. Also enjoys 2 meters, 220, and 440. Currently trustee for the K4MAL 66/06 repeater. In addition to gatherings on low band schedules, Ham is active in the ever changing world of Navy-Marine Corps MARS. Participated in the passing of Amateur Radio Antenna Legislation, known as House Bill 1340, in the 2007 North Carolina General Assembly. Wrote the initial draft and made presentations of the final form to respective House and Senate Committees. It passed both unanimously, went to the floor of the General Assembly where it was passed without objection. The Governor signed it into law in June. The law requires city and county ordinances to "reasonably accommodate amateur radio antennas", and recognizes the need for Amateur Radio operators to conduct emergency communications.
