First licensed in 1967 as WN0RKF, then WA0RKF, later assigned KE0G in 1979. On CW since 1971, using home brew transmitters from 40 to 1000 watts. Off the air for 10 - 12 years raising a family. Then, QRP since January, 2002, using the Elecraft K1. I love this radio! It opened a new world of portable for me. Now, generally operate a K3 capable of "QRO" at 10 watts, max, but usually 5 watts QRP. DSP and Noise Reduction are amazing - they pull out stations from the noise that otherwise aren't readable. Cool! Have had the K-1 and K-3 out of the house many times, having fun radioing in the wild. (well, the RV isn't SO wild) Antennas at home: Two 74' dipoles up about 50'; one N-S, and one E-W. Each is fed with ladder line and a 1950's vintage Johnson Matchbox. Use switches to select either one. Sometimes connect the feedlines together on one of them and run as a makeshift top-loaded vertical for 80M and 160M. The dipoles really have definite patterns on 20M. Enjoy ragchews, light contesting, experimenting with antennas, handling traffic. Have recently been named an ARRL Official Relay Station. Pictured above is a 1925 Super Parmak AM DX receiver. Pictured below is me, out as a rover for the start of the 2011 Minnesota QSO Party. Antenna is a 34' vertical with 3 radials. Temp was 10 F, snowbanks about 4' tall, and very foggy. But who cares when its MNQP time !!
