I was first licensed in 1966 as WN6TRR in Fremont Calif, then became WB6TRR. I
had a great Elmer, Bob Harris WB6OKE, now W6FV. My family farmed vegetables
along the East Bay shore when the Bay Area still had farms and orchards. A new
ham, I joined the Hayward Radio Club which at that time held their meetings in
an old quonset hut. It was there that I first met Bob Vallio W6RGG. In 1972 I
moved to Santa Cruz County where I met Dave Rowley WA6UZA, now N6RZ. It was
Dave who introduced me to contesting and the NCCC. Dave also shamed me into
upgrading both my license and CW skills. I became AA6T and held that call until
2003. I spent 32 years with Pacific Bell in Santa Cruz County, starting in
Outside Plant and then 22 years in Electronic Switching Systems. In April of
2003 I purchased my 4 acre home near Hilo Hawaii. I retired in March of 2004
and moved over. I took a couple of years off and it was during that time that I
built this station. The Hilo based Big Island Amateur Radio Club (BIARC)
members helped assemble the AN Wireless freestanding towers and M2 antennas
along with providing lots of encouragement. The station was designed and built
as a Multi 2 Contest Station. There are two identical operating positions in
the shack, making operator and band changes a no hassle event. The antenna
system currently consists of 2 towers with large M2 monobanders 40 thru 6 along
with a tribander. On 80 we now have a 4 Square vertical array with an extensive
radial system. On 160 we transmit using a shunt fed tower. Beverages are
available for receive on 80 and 160. We use networked PCs running N1MM logging
software. It takes quite a bit of maintenance to keep the station up and
running. While all the guys in our QSL photo regularly contribute to the KH6LC
contest effort, it's mainstays Curt Knight AH6RE and Ken Brown N6KB who've
really put forth the ongoing time and energy to keep it up and running well.
QSLs: For contest QSOs made after 10/01/08, QSL requests go to Jeff AI4U. All
contest logs also go into LoTW. For ragchew QSOs please QSL direct with an SASE
or via the buro.....and please be patient.
From all of us at KH6LC, thank you for all the QSOs and we look forward to
working you again soon.
73 and Aloha, Lloyd KH6LC
