I am known as "Jerry". KI4GE operates an internet controlled remote station on the family farm in Pickens, SC (Pickens County). I live in a Condo on the beach in Daytona Beach, FL which does not permit external antennas. Therefore, a remote internet controlled station is the only way I can have a decent station to work DX on the HF bands, which is my primary interest. The station includes an ICOM 756 Pro III, an ACOM 2000a linear and antenna switch controlled by TRX-ACOM, a Microkeyer II+, a SteppIR DB-18E at 92 feet (30 meters) on a US Tower HDX-589 crankup tower for 40m - 10m using a M2 Orion 2800 rotator and Green Heron controller, a HyGain HyTower for 75m with 110 radials 100 feet long (11,000 feet of wire), and an inverted V at 30m for 160m. The software includes Windows 7, TRX-Manager, Logger 32 for SteppIR control, CW Skimmer and MRP 4064 for CW, Airlink Express for Digital Modes, and Skype for audio transfer to and from the internet. The station is located in a stainless steel insulated shipping container which forms a great electrical shield around all equipment. The station is also well grounded with all components, including the towers, connected to a single Common Point ground through more than 300 feet of 2 inch copper strap with 8' ground rods every 16 feet. The installation also include numerous surge supressors to protect the electronics. The remote station uses all commercially available components and has proven to be reliable and generally troublefree. Last modified: 2012-01-08 01:35:29, 1560 bytes fetched
