I was born in the city of San Juan, Puerto Rico. I attended the Rexville High School in Bayamón and the Inter American University in Hato Rey, PR also the AIR FORCE ROTC Detachment 755 in Rio Piedras, PR and proudly served in the US ARMY. I am currently employed by WAPA-TV Channel 4 in San Juan as Broadcast Maintenance Engineer. I live in Toa Alta, PR with my wife Nilda-WP4MMP, my daughter Natalie and my son Sebastian. Ham radio is one of my favorite hobbies also the aviation. I am mainly interest in CW, DX, Satellites, Earth Moon Earth (EME), APRS, Packet, PSK31, SAREX/ARISS and ATV. I am the owner/trustee of several amateur radio communications repeater systems. The primary use of the KP4IA repeater system is to provide emergency communications specially during the hurricane season. This communications system is located in Mt Marquesa, Aguas Buenas, PR and coordinated by the PR/VI VFC, Inc. in the frequencies of 145.370 MHz (-), 29.620 MHz (-) and 51.980 MHz (-) also the amateur television repeater system (ATV), 426.250 MHz (out) 439.250 MHz (in), 1.252 GHz(in). KP4IA APRS - MARQSA Digipeater in Aguas Buenas, PR and JAYUYA Digi in Jayuya, PR both on 144.390 MHz. The 2 and 6 meters repeaters are linked also the 10 meter repeater which is well known by local, US and foreign radioamateurs due to its sensitivity and world wide coverage between the eastern and western hemisphere. The KP4IA repeater can be heard world wide even in bad skip conditions. The users of this communications system are friendly and most of them fully bilingual. Every year tourists radioamateurs visit the island of Puerto Rico. From the San Juan metroplex area is very easy to access the 2 meter repeater with hand held radio so feel free check in and welcome! The Metrovision ATV-APRS group link:

About APRS: http://www.aprs.org/

Automatic Packet Reporting System (APRS) is an amateur radio based system for real time tactical digital communications of information of immediate value in the local area. In addition, all such data is ingested into the APRS Internet system (APRS-IS) and distributed globally for instant access. In addition to messages, alerts, announcements and bulletins, the most visible aspect of APRS is its map display. Anyone may place any object or information on their map and it is distributed to all maps of all users in the local RF network or monitoring the area via the internet. Any station, radio or object that has an attached GPS is automatically tracked. Other prominent map features are weather stations, alerts and objects and other map related amateur radio volunteer activities including Search and Rescue and signal direction finding.

About ARISS:

Amateur Radio on the ISS

Astronaut Susan Helms KC7NHZ having a QSO

The International Space Station is operational and permanently manned by teams of astronauts and cosmonauts, most of whom have amateur licenses. Amateurs from the ISS partner countries, in the USA, Russia, Japan, Europe and Canada, have set up the ARISS program, a program who's mission is to foster amateur radio communications between the astronauts and cosmonauts who reside on the station. These include scheduling and assisting with school contacts, promoting field day and arranging other special events. Additionally the ARISSteam works to help astronauts and cosmonauts who do not have amateur licenses become licensed before launch.

The first amateur radio equipment was carried to the ISS on Space Shuttle Atlantis in September 2000 and installed by the Expedition 1 crew. The first amateur contacts were made by Commander William Shepherd in mid November 2000, and the first school contact took place in December 2000.
