Former Callsign: WB5DDI Station: Kenwood TS-570DG, Ameritron ALS-600, Elecraft K1, Hustler 6 BTV Vertical, Multiband Dipole, Cushcraft MA5B, Tri-Ex TC-37
Operations: 160-10 meter CW. Occasional SSB, RTTY and PSK31 Likes: DX chasing, Contesting, QSL collecting and QRP Fox Hunts http://www.qrpfoxhunt.org/ Bio: I was first licensed in 1970 as a Novice with the callsign WN5DDI. In 1971 I upgraded to Advanced Class. I eventually took and passed the Extra Class exam in 1981. I hung on to the WB5DDI call until a favorable block of callsigns came along and decided to change the call to KZ5J in 1982. During this period I was heavily involved in chasing DX and contesting. KZ5J achieved DXCC, WAZ, WPX, WAC and various other DX awards. With a career and other commitments I became inactive from 1983 until 2001. I find it fun to start over again and rework the various countries (entities) in pursuit of these same awards. Nice thing is this time around its solid state. No more tubes. Last summer (2005) my son obtained the Extra Class call AD5UU. He has since obtained the vanity call KZ5P. While we share the same shack we each have our own rigs. It’s neat to have someone close at hand that understands the hobby. It’s also nice having someone to do the antenna work. We both share the same interest of working DX. Only problem we have run into so far is getting in each other’s way on the way to the mailbox. Other: I am retired from Exxonmobil Global Services after 33 years of service where I was a Systems Analyst. In addition to amateur radio I love to play golf and have been playing since 1995. Now that I am retired and have more time for golf my scores are coming down. I love the game and usually play three times a week. I marshal at a local course one afternoon a week in return for free golf. If you are ever in Houston and want to play give me a shout. Website: www.kz5j.com QSL: Direct, via the bureau or LoTW.
