Dave Finley, N1IRZ, is author of the book "Morse Code: Breaking the
Barrier," published by MFJ Enterprises. He also is author of numerous
magazine and Web articles on Ham Radio and other topics. Licensed as one of the
first Codeless Technicians in 1991, Dave stumbled onto the Koch Method of Morse
training and upgraded to Extra Class in 1993. He has lectured extensively on
Morse training and encouraged many other hams in their efforts to gain code
proficiency.
A former president of the Socorro (NM) Amateur Radio Association, Dave is an
ARRL Public Information Officer and ARRL-accredited Volunteer Examiner. His
on-the-air interests include CW DXing, HF QRP operating and expeditions,
public-service operating, and VHF weak-signal work. He holds CW WAS and QRP-CW
WAC. He also is interested in the history of radio and recently finished
writing a history of ham radio in Socorro, NM.
In 2005, Dave fulfilled a lifelong ambition by earning his Private Pilot
certificate.
