Thanks for viewing my Bio - and thanks for the QSO!!!! I QSL 100 Per Cent!! (Direct, LOTW , e-QSL & DX Bureau)Licensed since 1963: Extra since 1969. Born:1945. Ham interests: digital modes, contesting, cw, awards QSLing, (I have DXCC 315+, 5BDXCC, 5BWAS + 160 WAS, WAZ, VUCC/6m-300+); enjoy working on antennas; mobile & portable operating. Twin Brother is Phil, AC4Q who lives up the "hill" from me. Younger brother, Jon, is W4NGM near Orlando, Fl. Older brother, Bob, is KI4VRP near Columbia, SC. My mother, Maxine,is KB4QYF lives down the street from me. I am a retired registered electrical/electronics engineer (PE); graduated from Auburn University and Clemson University. Go Tigers!!! I am also a registed Radiologic Technologist and am presently teaching radiological courses full time at a local community college. Other interests: scuba diving; RVing; love my dogs (3)and cats (3). BJ - my retriver, is in the picture above. (Click on pix to enlarge.) Below is Prince - my 70 lb pit bull - my P&J and my best buddy. He is a big baby! I also have a brindle 50 lb American Bulldog named Sarge - my second big baby.
Main rigs: TS 590S & AL-800H 1.5 KW amp w/MFJ-998 1.5 Kw Intellituner; TS 2000 & ALS-600 solid state 600W amp w/ LDG AT-1000 autotuner
I live on three wooded acres in the country so I have plenty of room and supports for my 12 HF antennas - as follows: three homebrew multiband OCF (off center fed) Carolina Windoms with BalunDesign 5 kW 4/1 voltage baluns: two for 80M (offset 40 degrees) and one for 160M - all up about 45 to 50+ ft; three homebrew bi-driectional super delta loops as follows - (lower freq is a full wave delta loop, higher freq similar to a bisquare open loop with about 3 db gain) : 40M/20M superloop (NW to Japan/SE to SA), 30/15M (NE to Europe/SW to ZL) and 20/10M superloop (NE to Europe/SW to ZL). All the Windoms & superloops are remotely switched and oriented for specific directional coverages on the various bands. I also use a great performing 80M full wave Delta Loop sloper with apex @ 60 ft - lower corner fed with open wire feeders & 4/1 remote voltage balun/coax into shack. Verticals: 160M top loaded Tee Vertical (52 ft vertical wire supported at center of a 110 ft horizontal, top loading "tee" wire which is fed against 4,000 feet of radials); a multiband Cushcraft R7 (40-10m half wave vertical radiator at 8 ft from ground); and a multiband Hustler 7BTV (7-band 80-10M quarter wave vertical radiatior fed against 4,000 ft of ground radials). VHF/UHF: operate SSB/cw/FM on 6,2, & 440. SSB/cw - 6 M 3 element Cushcraft yagi; 2 M - 5 element M-Square. Also use two 5/8 wave stacked/phased Squalos on each of those bands. On FM I use various dual and triband Comet verticals. I use LOGic (Only the best!) for logging; DATA: a Rig Expert Plus USB interface and HRD software with the TS2000. DATA: a PK-232-DSP-PSK multimode controller is used for RTTY FSK with the TS590S. Also, the TS 590S uses its internal USB sound card for other data modes. My QRP rig is a modified HW-8 Heathkit. I use WriteLog for contesting. The Boat Anchor AM/CW Rig shown below is an early 60's Hallifcrater's tube setup:- HT-40 AM/CW xmtr, HA-5 VFO, SX-117 RX, and four 811's in GG for 100W controlled carrier & 600W peak AM. I also run two early 70's vintage FT101E & FT101EE stations including scope, speaker phone patch, FL-2100 amp, etc.
Mobile HF is an IC-706MK2 & autotuner plus an Outback Perth Plus 40-10M antenna (on the right of the trunk) . Main mobile mode is CW. FM mobile gear is a Kenwood TM-707GM dual bander using a Diamond SG7900 super high gain (5 db 2M; 7.6 db 70cm) whip (on the left). (I get a lot of weird stares going down the road! - but I don't care. I love mobile hamradio!!!) My portable rig for use at the beach and vacation portable operating is a TS50 / AT50. I also use a RigExpert Plus USB sound card set up with this rig. Below is a picture of my RV trailer which has a complete HF station: TS480SAT/AL811H amp/RigExpert Plus/Pentium 4 computer. Operate SSB/CW/Digital including RTTY, PSK & SSTV. Use 600w Outback Outreach 12' Whip plus Alpha Delta ground tripod for portable antenna. Also use a 40M Carolina Windom when space permits. In the picture below, W4NGM, Jon my younger brother, is enjoying a needed rest at Field Day 2010.
I respond to all QSLs!!! Hope you enjoy ham radio as much as I do!! CU on the air! Last modified: 2012-03-19 15:08:01, 6169 bytes cached
