Monty got his first ticket (WN4HPZ) in 1966 at the age of 15 in Goldsboro, N.C.
Shortly thereafter, he got his Conditional Class (WA1JNC) in Limestone, Maine.
The next several years were spent "portable" in Binghamton, N.Y.,
during which time he was active in AF MARS cw nets as AFB1JNC. After joining
the Air Force (6 yrs), and a brief period of inactivity radio-wise, Monty
upgraded to Extra class N5FC in Austin, TX. He held that call roughly 25 years,
until acquiring N5ESE under the Vanity Call system. If you sound out 'ESE' in
CW, you'll understand why the effort was made; plus, with only one 'DAH', it's
20% faster. Almost all operating has been HF CW and QRP. Currently, Monty is
active on 40 and 30 CW, usually QRP, often mobile, with an occasional foray
into the DX bands. He's an active homebrewer. and you can get a gander at some
of his projects on his web page (URL above).
In addition to the ham radio link shown, Monty maintains an extensive
(non-radio) web site, and invites you to visit at: http://www.io.com/~maddog/
