My family goes back to 1856 in the San Jose area (Cornish miners in New Almaden Quick Silver Mines). I got interested in ham radio because its FUN and EXCITING! I studied code in Boy Scouts, got code records and listened to hams on an old Echophone EC-1A.WOW, I thought, think of being able to talk to other people by radio!! I still find it FAR more exciting than internet! My novice call was WV6MIN, and three months later, I became a General with the call WA6MIN. I am blessed with a wonderful wife, Linda (KB6TTC), and we have two wonderful adult sons, Matt (KB6TNA) and Mark. I now have three wonderful grandchildren, and I can't wait to teach them morse code! I enjoy talking with people over the air. I find most hams are wonderful, interesting human beings. I love to get past the usual 599 QTH OP RIG WX AGE stuff and then explore whatever is meaningful to them. I like all aspects of ham radio, but I like to daydream about varous HF antennas, new modes, and using my Ten Tec Orion II--an INCREDIBLE radio! :-) My home station consists of the Ten Tec Orion II, Ten Tec Centurion 1300w PEP amp, GAP Voyager, multiple band dipoles at 36-46 feet, ground mounted 6BTV with 18 radials, Brass Racer and Vibroplex paddles, and Logikey K-3. Other equipment includes a TS-440, two Ten Tec 544 digitals, a Heil Clearspeech speaker, Heathkit SB200, and several homebrew tube QRP transmitters. When mobile, I use an IC-706mk2G, Paddelette PK-1 knee mount key, Logikey K-3, ClearSpeech, and Hi-Sierra HS-1800 bumper-hitch mounted on the back of my Toyota Sienna. I am an active member and co-founder of the Berean Bible Study Net (hambiblestudy.org), which has met several nights a week to study the Bible, verse-by verse, for the past 30 years. I am also a member of Northern California Contest Club (NCCC), FISTS (#11012), QRP ARC (#11841), the Lockheed Martin ARC, Garlic Valley ARC, Santa Clara Valley Repeater Society, and Past President of West Valley ARA in Santa Clara County, CA. I am primarily a ragchewer, enjoying learning about others, but also work DX (about 200 countries) and Contests. I am now enjoying setting up my equipment for better contesting and experimenting with QRP/QRPp, RTTY, and PSK. I hope to soon build my Tennadyne T-8 LPDA and put it up on a 36 ft crank-up tower that nestles down to just 14 feet, allowing me to work on the antenna while standing on the flat barn roof. I almost lost my life due to amateur radio years ago. While standing on top of 50 foot Rohn #6 tower with my feet wedged under the boom of a 3 el 20, 2 el 40m yagi, hooking up multiple feed lines to a 10-15 yagi 7 feet above, I yelled to my wife 100 ft away in the ham shack--Try the RECEIVER--to see if I had hooked up the right coax. Instead, She thought I said--Try the ROTATOR--so she turned the stack, and rather than have my feet cut off between the lower boom and the top of the tower, I hung by my hands from the upper yagi's boom, dangling my feet almost 55 feet up! Talk about heart-pounding excitement! What a rush! When I'm not on the radio, you will normally find me surfing the web, presenting my 3-hour Love Relationships seminars (audio only available at www.n6gk.com) to teach people what true love really is and to save marriages, leading/teaching Bible Studies, or preaching the good news of Jesus Christ.because I found that communication with God really is the ultimate QSO and QSL--and He's not even DX! I have many more hobbies than I have time.but I especially enjoy amateur astronomy, astrophysics, and the natural sciences. I hope to hear you on some time.give me a call! 73, Greg, N6GK Last modified: 2011-01-22 02:51:43, 3713 bytes cached
