Licensed since 1989. I run mainly old boat anchors, but I also like modern radios and digital modes running QRP power.
PSK-31 is becoming a favorite mode using an Elecraft K3 at 5 watts or less. I do get a kick out of answering CQ's with
1 watt and I am often surprised how many give me a 599 signal report.
The pictures below are of some of my antennas. The 75M wire vertical is a new antenna for me. I wanted something
that would perform a little better for DXing than my dipole antennas. Man, this antenna makes DXing fun especially when I
get nice reports from Europe, Africa and Australia. I purposely fed it with 600 Ohm ladder-line so I can tune it with my Nye Viking
Tuner on other bands besides 75M and enjoy more long haul contacts. I took the picture at night so the wires would show up with
trees in the background. Its the view from below the antenna feed point. With the radials 20 feet above ground it really performs.
Luckily, I have some large Ohio hardwood trees that make nice antenna supports. The rope supporting the vertical is at 85 feet.
Don't let anyone kid you about trees absorbing too much RF. This radiator gets out.
I also have a 186 foot long Doublet (bottom pictures), 70 feet high, fed with 150 feet of #14 gage 600 ohm ladder line using the
same Ladder-Snap kits (from www.73cnc.com) as I used on my vertical. This feed line runs to a Johnson matchbox. You might think
the spreaders are spaced rather closely, but in fact, they are separated every 18 inches apart. You can guess how high this antenna
is just by counting the spreaders :) It is the best all band antenna I have ever used and I am able to work all bands 80-10 including
the WARC bands on one feed line. I did have to adjust the feed line length to get it to tune on all 9 bands, but it was worth the effort
and the ladder line kits make choosing lengths easy.
If you hear me on any of the bands, please give me a call and say hello
