Rig: Elecraft KX1

Power: 1-2 Watts from AA batteries

Antenna: A 27 foot wire in a tree and two 16 foot counterpoises on the ground.

The whole station fits into a small daypack.

The picture above was taken in the Swiss Alps at the peak called Schilthorn at about 11,000 ft. I took the KX1 with internal batteries and a couple of wires and operated at the peak. The wires made a low dipole, up about 4 feet, and it was tuned with the internal tuner. While up there, I worked a station from Moscow and one from Lausanne, Switzerland.

If you heard my call on the air, I was probably hiking outside near the San Francisco Bay or in the foothills of the Santa Cruz mountains.

Thanks for copying my QRP signal. Most of the work was yours!
