Licensed for 45 yrs now and still enjoying it like a kid, particularly smaller contests and QSO parties. Active on 3.5 thru 450 MHz (except 220). I use 1) a Radio Works 40M Carolina Windom SLP antenna at 45', 2) a homebrew OCF dipole in a sloping horizontal 'L' configuration with ladderline feed to a Radio Works Remote Balun and 3) a 1/4-wave vertical inverted-L with 8 raised radials. All are switched remotely with a DX Engineering antenna switch and tuned with an LDG RT-11 remote tuner and all can be used on nearly all bands. For 50, 144 and 440 MHz, I use a Comet GP-15 vertical at 25'. On the car is a Comet VHF/UHF antenna and a High Sierra Sidekick with Boots and Spurs and 3' whip. Rig at home is a Yaesu FT-847 and, in the car, a Yaesu FT-857D and Icom IC-2720H. When portable, I use a Yaesu FT-817 with LDG Z-11 and Icom IC-W32A (and an antique IC-2AT). Recently added an EQPlus by W2IHY that allows me to use a Realistic #33-912 Dynamic Microphone. I got this microphone soon after I was first licensed, perhaps 1970 or so. For CW, I mostly use a Vibroplex Straight key that I got new in Jan of 2012 (60th birthday present to myself), but I also use a Vibroplex iambic paddle or the Speed-X handkey that I started with as a Novice in 1967. I enjoy QRP and CW and mobile HF. I am a member of FISTS CW Club (#10158), North American QRP CW Club (#368), Straight Key Century Club (#5045) and Cobb County Ga ARES, AMSAT and a Diamond Club member of ARRL.
So far this year, I have been using the FT-817 exclusively in the shack operating QRP and have made at least one CW QRP QSO every day. Looking to see how long I can extend this streak.
1st Place contest winner for Ga QSO Party Ga QRP Phone category in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2011.
73, Mark
