I became a ham in 1973 at the age of 15, back in Windsor, Ontario (VE3HCN. I enjoyed ham radio until going away to University in 1976 where there was no time for hobbies. It wasn't until August of 2004 that I got back into ham radio. I found my old Kenwood TS-530S and operated CW, phone, and a little PSK31 for the first year back. In October 2005 I picked up a Yaesu FT-1000MP at a local flea market and have really enjoyed using a "modern rig. The rig is still working well (although it's had a couple repairs) and I'm enjoying contesting and chasing DX. Last year I picked up a a tube and a solid state amp and am working on improving my 160m and 80m antennas to be able to handle the power. I recently ordered a BigIR and looking forward to trying it out. When I'm on the radio you can catch me most of the time on whatever band is open (160m-10m. My logbook says I make about 2/3 of my QSOs on CW, so I guess that is my favorite mode. I've worked over 240 entities in the past 4 years, mostly with 100W or less. Thanks for reading my profile and hope I'll be CNU! My latest endeavour has been to publish a book on ham radio humour, entitled, "Hogwash for Hamsters. It is now available at http://www.trafford.com/Bookstore/BookDetail.aspx?BookId=SKU-000164317 It is also available in eBook format to download for CHEAP! at: http://www.booksonboard.com/index.php?BODY=searchresults&SEARCH=Hogwash%20for%20Hamsters I also had a poem called, "The Silent Key" published in the K9YA Telegraph. These are the first things I've had published, so maybe there is a new career in the offing. In October 2009 I received a two letter call, which I mainly intend to be used for contesting: VE6TL. And by the way, the photo was taken June 2007 on the banks of the Bow River in Calgary, with my Field Day setup. 73,Jerry, VE6CNU Last modified: 2011-01-22 02:22:33, 2568 bytes fetched
