My name is Hans. I was born 27/7/40 in Utrecht, The Netherlands. My parents, 3 brothers and one sister emigrated to Australia in 1952.  I have lived in Melbourne and Sydney (first licensed NSW, 1970) and since 1978 in the Adelaide area. My XYL is Lesley. Her callsign is VK5LOL, previously VK5HLS  (see her QRZ entry). She and I live in a locality called "Marble Hill" near Ashton in the State of South Australia. It is 14 km east of Adelaide in the hills at 600 m ASL (2000 ft.), a great radio QTH! We are on 1.2 hA (approx 3 acres) and rely entirely on rainwater.

The major part of my working life was with IBM, in the computer industry, partly in technical roles and partly non-technical, retired now. I am a member of the Wireless Institute of Australia (WIA) and also of the Adelaide Hills Amateur Radio Society (AHARS). See www.qsl.net/vk5bar/

Current (favourite) HF/6m Transceiver:

HPSDR project "High Performance SDR" transceiver (with a surplus Codan 100w PA), based on purely digital technique - DDC/DUC - (no Quadrature mixers!) (see http://openhpsdr.org for details).      Other HF rigs;  FT990 & IC706M2G. Amp: FL2100Z.    Antennas: Homebrew Cubical Quad at approx 18m high for 20 metres and inverted vee dipoles for 160-80-40 plus an 8 elem log-yagi on 6m. There are also a few antennas for the 2m and 70 cm bands. If you hear me, give me a call! 73, Hans VK5YX (QTHR)
