A Brief Profile from VK6MV -

First QSL - SORRY I DO NOT QSL - Except if you email me I will send a email qsl only - Thanks.

QTH -I keep being asked over the air where is the qth, its Cuballing about 200 kms S/E of Perth, on a 8 + acre block at 1206 ft asl in Western Australia, a small country town of around 350 people and a good quiet spot for radio, the Cuballing Shire has around 950 residents, it's a farming area where sheep, grain crops and hay for export are all produced. Across the road is "The Cuballing Nature Reserve" of 250 acres, after a good winters rain it is a mass of wild flowers including orchids in our Spring, we get many visitors of the local wild life type, Parrots, Goanna's and no, we do not harm the Kangaroo's or Wallabies they were here long time before we came. The nearest Town of Narrogin is about 15kms away to the south. My xyl Olive and I have been married 51 years, she has her own numerous hobbies and with the CWA and volunteer work at a Community Craft Shop.

The Station is using mainly all home brew gear here are pictured above [all except the Eddystone 888a a prized possession of the past and a Rotator Control box now have a old IC740 - Antenna's are a Quad Loop and a 160 mtr Dipole both fed with 600 open wire feeders plus a TH3 Beam. The main antenna is a terminated Rhombic with one end attached to the Tower the others to 3 assortments of bush poles 2 x 600 ohm feedlines being used, both are brought into the shack, termination, switching, and tuning done via Balanced ATU's in here. Its amazing what you can achieve with a bit of home built gear - give it a try and do enjoy the hobby.

Other Interests with hours of enjoyment are in Painting [In Watercolours], Sketching, Pottery with wheel & hand work then firing under reduction up to 1300 cels in a old gas fired kiln, Permaculture, Classical music, the Aussie Bush, as well as the "Home Brew radio" also into Computing and having got fed up with MS windows and its many 100's of thousands of Bugs & Viruses. I decided that's it. Just over 6 years ago I switched to using the free open source LINUX [GPL] and have never looked back, its a great relief to be free of the expensive alternative, I would certainly enjoy a chat about Linux with you sometime if you are into it. So far have tried out 122 different versions so have selected which ones I like, give Linux a try a free Linux LIVE CD/DVD eg Mepis or PCLinux. Try it first it first - Like it - Install it. Also on Skype when the going gets tough on the radio the novelty of Echolink wore off some time back. Certainly do prefer the 'ham radio' on "The Old Shortwaves" it's much more of a challenge.

Here -We are really enjoying the life here in Australia, it is a really great place to live, the climate is "Beaut" the best and certainly keeps up to its name as "The Lucky Country". Cheers & good DX 73 Roy VK6MV
