A Brief Profile from VK6MV - I keep being asked over the air where is the qth ? it's located here on a 8 + acre block in Cuballing its about 200 kms S/E of Perth, at 1206 ft asl in Western Australia, a small country town of around 350 people and a good quiet spot for radio, the Cuballing Shire has around 950 residents, it's a farming area where sheep, grain crops and hay for export are all produced. Across the road is "The Cuballing Nature Reserve" of 250 acres, after a good winters rain it is a mass of wild flowers including orchids in our Spring, we get many visitors of the local wild life type, Parrots, Goanna's and no, we do not harm the Kangaroo's or Wallabies they were here long time before we came. The nearest Town of Narrogin is about 15kms away to the south. My wife Olive now married 50 years has her own numerous hobbies and with the CWA & various volunteer work at the Museum and Craft Shops. The Station is using mainly all home brew gear here, my heap and mug shot are pictured above [all except the Eddystone 888a a prized possession of the past and a Rotator Control box now have a old IC740, a TH3 Beam & Quad Loop. The main antenna is a terminated rhombic with one end attached to the Tower the others to 3 assortments of bush poles 2 x 600 ohm feedlines being used, both are brought into the shack, termination & tuning done via Balanced ATU's in here. Its amazing what you can achieve with a bit of home built gear - give it a try and do enjoy the hobby. Regarding qsl's please use the "EMAIL ADDRESS" on this site, just send me a email address [your address & email will not be kept unless requested not to] I will then reply with a email qsl, which you can print up yourself - at your leisure. Sorry you guys "NO" MEANS NO - NO QSLs Direct, NO QSLs to the Bureau, NO eqsl's and certainly No US $$ Dollars just use the easy modern route via 'The Email'. Its come to my notice than a few emails sent out to me have not arrived here, afraid this is beyond my control - But still QSL cards keep coming in. Please note "I have NO QSL CARDS PRINTED now & will only reply via the email" - Thanks. Other interests with hours of enjoyment are in Painting [In Watercolours], Sketching, Pottery with wheel & hand work then firing under reduction up to 1300 cels in a old gas fired kiln, Permaculture, Classical music, the Aussie Bush, as well as the "Home Brew radio" into Computing and having got fed up with MS windows and its many 100's of thousands of Bugs & Viruses. I decided that's it. Over 5 years ago I switched to using the free open source LINUX [GPL] and have never looked back, its a great relief to be free of the expensive alternative, I would certainly enjoy a chat about Linux with you sometime if you are into it. So far have tried out nearly 70 different versions, why not give Linux "A GO" try a free Linux LIVE CD/DVD eg Mepis or PCLinux. Also on Skype when the going gets tough on the radio, as the novelty of Echolink wore off some time back. Certainly do prefer the 'ham radio' on "The Old Shortwaves" it's much more of a challenge. We are really enjoying the life here in Australia, it is a really great place to live, the climate is "Beaut" the best and certainly keeps up to its name as "The Lucky Country". Cheers & good DX 73 Roy VK6MV Last modified: Mon Apr 20 03:43:05 2009 Does this page contain inappropriate content? If so, Report this page... |
