Click for more detail... Hello From Trinity Bay, Newfoundland. I am a retired high school music teacher from Ontario and am now, along with my XYL,VO1KAC, living in Hearts Delight, NL, a small out port town about 50 miles (80 km) west of St. John's on the east shore of Trinity Bay. This used to be our summer home until we both retired. We share the house with a large yellow Labrador retriever. All our children are grown and away so it's just the dog and us. I hold an advanced class amateur licence and run a relatively simple station using a Yaesu FT 1000MP connected to an all band dipole antenna set up as a kind of sloping inverted vee. A manual tuner is a must here with all the ice and snow that accumulates on the antenna during the winter months as we are less than 100 yards from salt water. I usually run no more than 100 watts. The weather here in the winter months can be very hard on antenna systems with lots of wind. I don't have a yagi as the winds are so strong at times that it would take a disc brake from a diesel locomotive to hold a beam in the desired direction...hi If you want to test the staying power of an antenna, bring it here for a winter. I operate CW on 20 mtrs daytime, 40 mtrs in the evening and like nothing better than a good CW rag chew. I'm always glad to QRS for another op if they want. Operations from here are usually in the 15 to 25 wpm range. I am a member of the FISTS CW Club, #2900 which I got a few years ago when living in VE3 land. My calls in Ontario were VE3CKX , VA3AS and then VA3ZG. Also enjoy sailing in the summer months with our McVay sloop and ATVing all year round as there are trails here that go for miles into the back country. I do NOT QSL via any bureau. Please QSL direct if you want a card. I return QSL 100%, usually the same day. Cheers and 73 from Newfoundland Doug VO1DD Last modified: Thu Jul 2 18:25:49 2009 Does this page contain inappropriate content? If so, Report this page... |
