Ham radio for me is a religion. I practice it, dont mess with it and love
it!!!Though the seed of desire to pursue ham radio was planted in me in the
1970s( I was in college then), I got my ticket in 1996, when I was a mother of
2 kids! I am now 52 years old, born in 1953.Though my parents hail from south
India,I was born in Kolkata, in West Bengal, India. Then we moved to Mumbai
where I did my schooling. After my dad's retirement, we moved to Chennai in
South India, where I went to college. In 1976, after marriage, I moved back to
Mumbai, where I have lived since. My son(Rohit) and daughter in law(Avital)work
for Dell Computers in Texas USA, where they live. My daughter Radhika, lives
with me and is an assistant producer with CNBC's TV18. My husband is the Vice
President of DIC Ltd, a Japanese company manufacturing Printing Inks. I am the
vice president of the Amateur Radio Society of India(ARSI) and also edit their
magazine "Ham Radio News", published quarterly. Recently I was
appointed as Liaison officer for the IARU in India. I was part of the AT0BI,
AT0RI and AT0AI island expeditions and hope to do many more. Whenever I visit
my son in Texas, I take part in all the ham activities there and was part of
the W1AW team during the IARU WW contest in 2002. I had attended the
International YL Meet in Seoul, Korea in 2004 and will be hosting the
International YL Meet in Mumbai in October 2006. Please visit the site
www.geocities.com/mumbaiylmeet. I have an ICOM 746 PRO transceiver and a 5
element triband yagi and an Ameritron AL80B amplifier in my shack. I love to dx
on SSB and sometimes on PSK31. Besides radio, I am a graduate in Economics,
love to travel, listen to all kinds of music from classical to hip hop and love
to dance. I love to work out and try adventure sport. I have scuba dived in
australia, bungee jumped and paraglided in new zealand and sky dived in Texas.
I love to learn languages and can speak 4 indian languages and English and
German. I beleive in the existence of a superior force, whatever name you give
it and try to be a good ham and a good person!!
