SKCC # 31T FISTS # 8610 CC # 1310 Flying Pigs # 590 My club call is WØJER FISTS # 11975 SKCC # 1000 At 75 with 58 years of hamming I feel like I was born between the old timers and the young hams. I was hooked on ham radio the first time I saw WØQOZ Reuben Nordstrom (SK) make a contact when I was visiting his ham shack. In the winter of 1953 five of us high boys went out to WØUEB Warren Shook (SK) where we learned the code and built our first transmitter and power supply. Reuben and Warren were the smartest hams in the world and we looked up to them. Warren gave us our Novice test and we all passed. At that time the Novice License was good for one year only and then you had to renew or get off the air. We patiently waited for the FCC to send our tickets so we could get our freshly built transmitters on the air. Then in April 1954 I received my ticket with the call WNØTUP. There will never be another thrill like there was when we made that first cw contact with a transmitter we built with our own two hands. I am an Extra Class operator, also have the Second Class Commercial Radio License.
