Originally earning my Novice license when I was 12, I enjoyed CW contacts from the Colchester, CT home my family lived at. Using vintage Hallicrafters & Hammarlund equipment and a 10-15-20-40-80 fan dipole Dad (W8MHS-silent)and I constructed. I recall eagerly going to bed early at 7PM so I could wake at 2-3AM and get on the air - propagation was good then and I was pleased to pull in signals from the west coast. My shack today houses an IC-756 Pro-II as a main rig with the IC-2KL solid state amp and matching AT500 tuner. As a backup I have a recently acquired FT-897D I hope to soon begin working some satellites with. Mostly collecting dust, but always ready to warm the shack is my dinosaur Henry 3-KA console amp. On the high bands my 2nd-hand Mosley TA-53M yagi sits about 18-20ft off the ground and surprisingly gets me across the pond. For the low bands I use a 40-80-160 Hy-Power inverted-V up about 35ft. My Dad (Paul) passed away a few years back, but I will never forget hearing him working the radios calling W1COZ. To honor his memory I applied for and was awarded his former callsign as my vanity sign. Originally my general class license was for callsign KG4TWV but I now use W1COZ. Hope to work you on the air!
