Welcome to W4ANR's profile. First licensed in 1962, callsign WN4JMJ as novice class. General class callsign WA4JMJ, 1963. Upgraded in 1981 to Advanced class, callsign KC4ZD. Extra class in 1982. Changed callsign to W4ANR on 22 Dec. 2007. My license name is Albert D. Mountain, but on the air I use my middle name "Dean."
Operating modes include SSB/FM/CW, satelites, and digital modes from 160M to 2.4 Ghz. Active in ARRL and CQ DX contests, QRP, FD, and VHF contests. Worked Rover mobile with best contact 600 miles on 432 SSB running 20 watts and 25 el. yagi in 2001 from a hillside in Hartford, CT. to TN.
Activities include history, writing, photography, and aviation. Crawled around airplanes since age 4. Last year hitched a fantastic ride with the Shell Aerobatic Team, in formation with Texan T6's. Every year I attend the Sun n' Fun airshow during April, usually with the rv for a few days. Sailing was an important part of my life from time to time, sailed boats from 8 ft. prams to aircraft carriers. US Navy veteran from 1966 to 1972, Duty stations included Pensacola (Sherman Field), FL.; Survival school, SERE school, Little Creek VA; NSA Danang (I-Corp) Viet Nam in 1968-1969. Outdoor activities include mt. biking, kayaking, hiking, and horseback riding.
