Hello, I'm Dan Hoogterp. After a brief exploration of amateur radio as a novice long, long, ago, I decided to join the ham ranks in early 2011. I quickly read the arrl license prep books, studied on a few online test sites, took all three elements in one setting and became an expert. I have a good understanding of the concepts, but not much relevant experience. Being an expert and fairly new to this at the same time is a weird feeling ;)
I'm running a limited stealth station, but definitely enjoying it so far. I've managed to reach Europe and Asia a fair number of times, South America, and a handful of states. Not breaking many pileups yet. It still takes many more attempts than I'd like to get a contact. I'm mostly SSB, but have been playing with PSK/RTTY and made a first RTTY contact a few days ago to the Ukraine.
P.S. after getting my license as AK4GX, I quickly changed to WG3O. Living in region 4, I grabbed W4LI when it became available. My call sign is now here to stay.
