The antenna picture at the top shows my secondTelrex 4-band XMAS Tree at 100 feet that took K4JAG (my call of 39 years) to the Top of the Honor Roll. It was a rock crusher. The 5 el 10 and the 2 el 40 are still in the air. The 8 el 15 and the 5 el 20 have been replaced with M2 monobanders. The 2nd antenna picture shows the current installation. The W4NU HF antenna stack in Atlanta, GA: 1) 6 el M2 15 meter monobander on 44 foot boomat 112 feet. 2) 3 el Hy-Gain 10 meter monobander on 8 foot boom at 109 feet. 3) 2 el Telrex 40 meter monobander on 14 foot boom at 106 feet (66 foot full size elements). 4) M2 80M1 (80/75) rotateable dipole at 100 feet (94 feet long). 5) Above antennas on 24 foot mast turned by an M2 RC-2800PX at 90 feet. 6)M2 5 el 20 meter monobander(on 44 foot boom) turned by the new version of the TIC Ring Rotor at 93 feet. 7)3 el Telrex 10 meter monobander on13 foot boom at 65 feet turned by a Ham IV rotoron a W9IIX side mount. 8) 5 el Telrex 10 metermonobander on 23 foot boom at 35 feet turned by a Ham IV rotor on a W9IIX side mount. 9)The 10 meter monobanders are phased using an Array Solutions Stack Match for any one, any two or all three. 10) The 160 meter antenna is a shunt fed 100 foot Rohn 45G tower with an Omega match and 32 radials. 11)The receive antenna on TOP BAND is a Hi-Z Antennas 4-Square. It is an awesome receive antenna.
W4NU was first licensed in Atlanta as KN4JAG in June of 1959, and upgraded to K4JAG as a General in July of 1959. He upgraded to Advanced in the early 1970’s and to Extra in 1976. W4NU is a member of the Southeastern DX Club, and first received the DXCC certificate in 1964. His main focus is DXing and always has been. W4NU is a dentist in private practice at a major university affiliated medical center in downtown Atlanta, GA, and has been since the 1970's. He retired from the U.S. Army Reserve as a Colonel and unit commander in December of 2003. He was activated by the U.S. Army in March of 2002, and served in the war on terrorism as the Theater Dental Surgeon for SW Asia in Kuwait and Turkmenistan. He has been affiliated with the military for a substantial portionof his adult life. The station at W4NU includes an Elecraft K3 transceiver and Alpha 77 Amplifier. Before this the equipment was a Collins S-line for many years. W4NU, being retired military, is firmly committed to buying equipment only from U.S. vendors. W4NU operated in Kuwait City, Kuwait as W4NU/9K2 from July through September of 2002 while deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. QSL via W4NU's QRZ address or via Log Book of the World.
