My first love was airplanes and electronics, especially radio. Upon completing high school, entered the USAF in 1947. Obtained my class B amateur license in June of 1948 and upgraded to class A in 1949. Also got commercial radiotelephone and radiotelegraph licenses. Took advantage of opportunity for pilot training via the Aviation Cadet program. Completed that and accumulated some 3000 hours of jet fighter time. Due mainly to family considerations, left the USAF in late 1967. After a few years with Avco Lycoming in Charleston SC, we established a small business for sales, installation and repair of marine electronics. I did some flying for the local airport operater, had a good partnership in a Cessna 172 with another pilot for personal flying. Am now retired, doing a lot volunteer work, and enjoying ham radio. Wife, Kathy, retired from Charleston Southern University. We are now trying to catch up on chores, left undone for many years, and finding some time for leisure activities.
