Hello, my name is Richard.
Currently my XYL and I are transitioning to a life on the road. Through a number of circumstances, we find ourselves living full time in our fifth-wheel travel trailer, and while we adapt to changing financial circumstances, we will travel thoughout the country seeing family and friends.
I have been licensed since 2006, with the former call sign of KI4PEQ. I used to live north of Crestview, Florida in the small community of Garden City, but we now call Marion County, Tennessee our new home base. I am working on setting up my shack in the rather cramped confines of our 30 foot rolling abode, but can operate HF from the mobile in my pickup truck
My amateur radio interests include digital modes such as PSK-31, contesting, Field Day, and operating from remote locations. I am working on earning my Extra Class ticket. I am a ARRL VE. I am a trained NWS weather spotter with a lifelong interest in weather, especially tropical storms and hurricanes (probably because I am a native Floridian, born in Miami and raised in Orlando and the Fort Lauderdale area).
I am a retired USAF non-commissioned officer, and my military job specialty was in the public affairs career field. Overseas, I worked in Armed Forces Radio and Television Service affiliates in Turkey, Spain, Germany, and The Netherlands. I was a radio announcer and television news reporter, and I was a television master control operator in Turkey and The Netherlands. While in stateside assignments, I was a community relations NCO, a newspaper staff writer, and performed additional duties as a special projects NCO as directed by the base public affairs officer. Since I retired I worked part-time for a local country radio station for about a year. I now do the occasional video project and hope to do some voice work at broadcast stations at my newly adopted home in Tennessee.
My other interests include travel, camping, computers (I have been a Macintosh user since 1994), photography, and researching my family tree. I am a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and The Ancient Order of Turtles. (Are you a Turtle?)
73,
Richard
