QSL: Silent Key

My transceiver is an Icom IC 756 Pro II. My amplifier is an Ameritron AL80A.

My primary antenna is a 130 foot doublet, fed with 450 Ω ladder line, a 4:1 tuner balun #4124T by Balun Designs and 10 feet of 9913 coax into the shack. The antenna is 48 feet high at the center feedpoint and 15 feet high on the ends. This antenna allows me to tune all bands from 80 thru 10 meters with a Palstar AT2K. This antenna and feed system has performed well for me for local work as well as DX contacts. I also have a 33 foot, ground mounted vertical with 60 radials that is tuned with a modified LDG AT1000 located at the base of the radiator. The vertical will often provide better performance than the doublet on long DX.

First licensed in December of 1976 when I lived near Dayton, Ohio. Back then we had to take our tests at an FCC Field Office. A group of us made several trips to Detroit and Cincinnati until we worked our way up to Advanced Class Amateur. I then passed the Amateur Extra exam in March of 1986 in Dayton at a Volunteer Examiners test site. 20 WPM was tough and involved many hours of copying W1AW on 80 meters late into the evening but it was worth the effort.

I spend most of my radio time rag chewing on 75 or 40 meters but will occasionally catch a little DX in the window or up on 17 meters. I have recently became interested in the digital modes. I work a little BPSK31 on 40m, 20m and 17m and have been tinkering with SSTV using HRD's DM780 for analog and EasyPal for digital.

I use my middle name ( Vince ) on the air but will answer to Aubrey as well.

The tower below is an Aluma Tower T150, all aluminum, 2 section, crank up, fold over, 50 feet to the top of the mast. Here in hurricane territory it is nice to be able to lay it flat on the ground in a matter of minutes. It only weighs 84 pounds so it is a one man job to stand it up or lay it down.

Thanks for reading, maybe catch you on the air.

QSL - Okay on EQSL.cc or direct to address on this page. No Bureau - No Buro - No LoTW.

SWL's are welcome with date/time UTC and callsign of the station I was working.

73, Vince.

The LDG AT1000/Remote project is complete. See pictures on my webste.
