First licensed in 1962, I work all HF bands using amplitude modulation. I am a collector, restorer and operator of vintage amateur radio equipment. Another favorite pursuit is building homebrew equipment, particularly AM transmitters. I am a founding member of the Southeastern AM Radio Club and presently serve as president of the club. I am also a founding member of AM International and serve as the Southeastern Regional Director. My AMI Certificate Number is 9.

The vintage radio equipment I collect includes Gates, Collins, Johnson, National, Hallicrafters, Hammarlund, Elmac, Morrow, Gonset and military sets. Antennas are 80 and 40 meter dipoles, a Marconi for 160 meters, a KLM KT-34XA 6 element tribander at 90 feet and a 14 element yagi for 2 meters at 95 feet.

I like to hear from others who are interested in homebrewing equipment. A detailed look at my homebrew AM transmitters including schematics is on my webpage. If you have any questions about these transmitter designs please send me an e-mail to my address listed above. The photo in upper right shows my 4-1000A homebrew transmitter. It features a single 4-1000A in the final and a pair of 4-1000A's in the modulator.

I also enjoy Cushman Motorscooters. I own and ride a 1959 Cushman Eagle. The Eagle has a modified 13.5 horsepower engine and is very fast. My wife Sally, N4RFQ rides a 1961 Cushman Highlander with a modified 8 horsepower engine. Another two-wheeled favorite is my Yamaha Royal Star Venture. See a picture of these vintage scooters and motorcycles at my homepage at www.wa4kcy.com.
