Grew up in New Jersey, licensed as a kid in 8th grade (WN2WIK). Moved to Los
Angeles in mid-1988 and never changed my old callsign. It's a mouth full, but a
great sobriety test. I'm not moving back East, as I hate cold weather,
humidity, rain, snow, lightning, mosquitos, toll roads and everything else I
can remember.
Continuously active for more than 40 years, through more than a dozen moves.
Just can't keep away from this hobby!
I work 1.8 through 432 MHz CW/SSB and a bit of FM on 52, 144, 222 and 440 MHz.
Enjoy AM work, when conditions are suited for it. I QSL 100% in reply, but very
infrequently unless requested. 30 shoeboxes filled with QSL cards occupying two
200 lb+ cartons in the garage seem sufficient. DX QSLs go via the bureau unless
inbound is accompanied by SAE.
XYL and four daughters...first one's at the University of California, Santa
Barbara, then three more to go before we can turn all their bedrooms into
additional ham shacks. The only other male in the house is my African Basenji
"Pickles." Good dog. If I want to shoot pool and drink beer, I take
the dog.
